Jamie Horton is the President and CEO of Tri-Cities Restaurant Group. The company has 17 Wendy's franchises throughout East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.

Jamie's biggest challenge is supporting their operations team. "That's my job, it's always about the people in our business. It's about the turnover, retention and attracting highly engaged people."

"Since we launched ZayZoon our cash theft has decreased from a 5 bps per month level, to a current level of cash theft of 1 bps per month. The 4 bps pick up is an annualized cost saving of $9,500. I attribute this to ZayZoon.

Retention is tough in the QSR (quick service restaurant) industry says Jamie Horton, President and CEO of 17 Wendy's franchises.

The main challenges their restaurants experience are retention, recruitment and loss control (cash theft).

Jamie speaks on having a understanding for his employees:

" What we find with the new generation, it's more about flex time than it is about long-term commitment and job growth. It's about flex time in fitting our schedule and what I have to do in my life and my lifestyle. So we try to adapt to that, to be able to curtail that."

Their company was searching for an Earned Wage Access provider that could seamlessly offered their employees access to their earned wages.

"We did our due diligence, the VP of Operations and myself talked to two other vendors and they were a little cumbersome. Our administrative saw that we're going to require some more manpower from the accounting team, which we didn't have the resources to do."

Eventually, they reached out to their payroll provider, Time and Pay, who introduced them to ZayZoon.

"ZayZoon is a one-stop shop for us. We do nothing. It's all handled through the payroll provider. The employees have access to the app in the restaurants. They engage with it or they don't engage with it. The decision is theirs."

"ZayZoons is integrated with our payroll system, the employees could go in and access through the app, it processes through the payroll provider, and basically totally hands off for me."

The low lift on the employer's side and no additional expenses is what helped Jamie and his team choose ZayZoon.

"We don't have to incur any additional expenses or manpower. So the platform allows us to do what we do and do it well on a daily basis without taking focus off, you know, serving our customers."

Improved retention and loss control.

Increased employee retention

  • 15% increase in retention within the first three months.

"We're around 96% staffed in all our restaurants in the portfolio to date. So we'll take that. The retention aspect is probably what we work on the most."

Decrease in cash theft

  • 80% decrease in cash theft
  • Annual savings of $9,500

"Since we launched ZayZoon our cash theft has decreased from a 5 bps per month level, to a current level of cash theft of 1 bps per month. The 4 bps pick up is an annualized cost saving of $9,500. I attribute this to ZayZoon."

"Celebrating our 30th anniversary. Time and Pay started in 1992, turning 30. ZayZoon was great enough to come by to talk with our clients and talk with our employees. We're having lunch provided by Whiskey Kitchen, a client here in the Tri Cities. Dishing up burgers and barbecue and just celebrating on a beautiful day in East Tennessee."

“I would definitely recommend it to another team member because people run short every day on money or get low, they need something, car repairs, groceries."

"I got referred from one of my coworkers. So I download the app and we both got money because she referred me."
